Emerging Professionals Committee

back to Committees

AIA-RI’s Emerging Professionals Committee was started in 2004 by Kathy Bartels, AIA support and initiative. Under Kathy’s leadership and direction as Chapter President the Board of Directors created our first ever Associate Director position on the Board. This position was modeled after the National Associate Director position on the Institute’s National Executive Committee. The Associate Director represents and advocates for interns and Associate members at the board level. Cecelia Hallahan was elected to the position by the membership. At this time the Emerging Professionals Committee was also formed and Cecelia served as chair. AIAri_EP

The Emerging Professionals Committee has grown steadily since its inception. The group’s primary mission is to serve and represent interns and young architects. We focus on providing programs with quality content such as ARE study seminars and building performance workshops. We also organize the annual IDP Forum, a panel discussion program targeting a variety of issues including alternate careers, starting your own firm and deciphering the licensure process.

Additionally, we have a very strong partnership with the Young Constructors Forum (YCF) a committee of the Associated General Contractors of RI (AGC-RI). By collaborating with the YCF we are able to provide opportunities and programs of common interest and benefit to both groups. These efforts have included building handicap ramps for ReBuilding Together, construction site tours of major building projects like the Masonic Temple, and more recently participating in Canstruction.

We also are strongly tied to the National Associates Committee and the Young Architects Forum, both are part of the Knowledge Community structure of the AIA.
