02/19/2010 : The Emerging Professionals Construction Tour Series: The Box Office

The building, christened “The Box Office,” is constructed from 33 recycled ISO shipping containers (94 tons of “upcycled” steel put back into productive use) and provides a solution for under-utilized urban spaces in Providence. Once completed, the project will offer 12 inexpensive, small-scale, energy efficient office units which are already attracting small businesses, artists, and start-ups that are powering Providence’s growing creative economy. Completion of the project is anticipated May 2010. The tour will be led by Joe Haskett, R.A., LEED-AP, Principal of distill studio and Joshua Brandt, Principal of Stack Design Build.


Registration: $5 AIA members, interns and students $10 Non-Members Advanced registration is required and space is limited to 25 people. Attendees will receive 2.0 HSW learning units Interns: Acquire 2 hours of IDP credits for Construction Administration by completing an acting field report. Hardhat and appropriate shoes are required!!! Please bring your own!!!
