Comments from the Jury:
Built at a time when teaching and learning methodology favored a more segregated and inward environment, this building previously lacked meaningful common and gathering areas.
- With that previous inward focus, the building’s muted facades created a lack of natural light and did not support an active student life experience on the Quad.
- The full renovation of the Hall addresses the layout in a manner that creates more open, light-filled spaces that encourage a sense of community by providing areas for gathering, group study, and casual meetings.
- This was achieved by replacing the two-story center section with a three-story connector that features a double height multi-purpose room as well as study lounges that benefit from a fully glazed facade.
- Through this transformation, it appears that the building has been repositioned as a campus destination.
