Director of Strategic Marketing

Union Studio, a 22-person architectural firm in downtown Providence, RI, is seeking an experienced, dynamic marketing professional to fill the role of Director of Strategic Marketing. This is a leadership position within the firm and requires close collaboration with Union Studio’s principals. The Director of Strategic Marketing will be responsible for identifying new opportunities for firm growth through both entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial initiatives. This position will oversee the firm’s day-to-day marketing operations (proposals, awards submissions, social media, website updates, press releases, brand management, etc.) while finding creative ways to reach Union Studio’s target markets across the U.S. and Canada.

This is an exciting point in Union Studio’s 16-year history. Our firm is expanding into new markets across the country and Canada; and our growing presence in the Pacific Northwest may provide an opportunity to consider a regional office in the near future. We will be refreshing our website within the upcoming year to position our firm for its next stage of expansion. Our ideal candidate will need to immerse themselves in the particulars of the A/E/C industry and bring extraordinary energy to Union Studio. The responsibilities of the Director of Strategic Marketing will include:

  • Selecting, directing, and managing a Marketing Coordinator, who will implement day-to-day marketing tasks (proposals, awards submissions, social media, website updates, press releases)
  • Identifying project leads and driving client outreach
  • Develop a marketing strategy for a regional office in the pacific northwest should the office pursue this opportunity
  • Updating Union Studio’s website (within the next 12 months)
  • Shaping the firm’s tone of voice, writing selected content, and managing our evolving brand
  • Tracking performance indicators and meeting identified targets
  • Developing and pitching engaging content to local, regional and national publications
  • Attending various networking events as a senior representative of Union Studio
  • Discovering and implementing new, innovative ways to connect our firm with our ideal client base

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 8-10 years of marketing / business experience ideally in the Architecture, Urban Design, Engineering, Construction, and/or Design Industries
  • Demonstrated balance of business acumen and passion for design
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Brand management experience including a refined graphic design aesthetic
  • Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Powerpoint and/or other presentation software
  • A commitment to New Urbanist and Smart Growth principles
  • Familiarity with the national landscape of architectural and development firms and best marketing practices
  • Excellent management skills and the ability to be self-directed with multiple deadlines
  • A flexible schedule permitting evening events and travel if necessary
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a design-related field is preferable but not required

ZDS Architectural Design

Intern Architect/Designer


  • Currently enrolled in a degree program focusing on design/graphic design/marketing/hospitality/etc.
  • Prior internship experience a plus.


Intern Architect/Designer will work closely with the team in the development of projects from beginning to end, focusing on design, documentation, communication, and coordination; they will have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of phases of projects from schematic design to detailing, to construction administration, and project close out for all projects. Intern architect will assist with administrative duties and supporting our design department.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist designers and project architects in conceptual design on assigned projects.
  • Responsible for production of schematic design, design development, and construction documents
  • Produce presentation documents and diagrams for client and town meetings

Job Purpose:

Under general direction of Director, the Assistant Director develops, directs, administers, and coordinates community redevelopment activities for the City of Central Falls, including all activities of the Central Falls Redevelopment Agency. 

The Assistant Director is responsible for direct oversight of junior staff members and shoulders primary responsibility for a plurality of Department projects. This position provides advice and assistance to the Director of Planning and Economic Development, Mayor, City Council, various City department directors and local boards, commissions and officials, community and civic leaders, and the general public. The Assistant Director will work intimately with the city’s redevelopment agency and city programs.

Central Falls is a small city with a lean government. The Assistant Director will join an energetic, focused team within the Department of Planning and Economic Development to achieve the city’s growth objectives.

Position Description:

The major areasdirected are:

  • Participates in the organization and development of the planning and urban redevelopment program to be implemented by the Department of Planning and Economic Development and the Redevelopment Agency
  • Undertakes redevelopment projects from inception through completion
  • Acts as technical advisor to the staff on urban redevelopment studies
  • Serves as staff secretary to Central Falls Redevelopment Agency with duties that include preparation of agendas, preparation of meeting minutes, and board recommendation as well as the preparation and recording of all decisions/resolutions of the Agency
  • Prepares and delivers presentations to City boards, technical and neighborhood groups on planning and redevelopment matters
  • Assists in the compilation and interpretation of physical, social, and economic data used in the analysis of planning and urban redevelopment problems and in the design of solutions to these problems
  • Supervises and coordinates various staff activities of the Department in the completion of assigned projects with special emphasis on urban design or on research and analysis
  • Assigns work and supervises staff and consultants in the compilation and interpretation of physical, social, and economic data used in the analysis of planning and urban redevelopment problems and in the design of the solutions to these problems
  • Assists in the evaluation of data affecting location and design of projects
  • Prepares written and graphic reports using computerized word processing, desktop publishing, presentation, mapping, spreadsheet, database software, and other software devices
  • Represents the Department at conferences and work related meetings as required; represents Department at meetings and events in the absence of the Director
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Position Qualifications:

  • A passion for urban environments and diverse communities
  • Detailed and demonstrable knowledge of municipal government project management
  • Ability to perform complex technical research and analysis, compile comprehensive reports, work with computers and computer programs, and make recommendations for the practicable applications of findings
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials and the general public
  • Excellent organizational, time management, verbal, written, analytical, and research skills
  • Spanish language skills strongly preferred
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
